Another new lawyer was yesterday admitted to the local bar. Attorney at law Esther Sam had her petition presented by Attorney at law Kamal Ramkarran before Justice Rishi Persaud.
Sam was a former student of Mae’s Private School. She was successful at the Secondary Schools Entrance Examination which gained her a place at Queen’s College.
Sam attended the University of Guyana where she pursued a degree in law. She graduated with her Bachelors Degree in Law and moved on to the Hugh Wooding Law School where she graduated with her Legal Education Certificate in October.
Justice Persaud said that Sam was entering the profession at a time when the system is saturated. He said that the system is under continuous scrutiny.
He said that they were at a stage when they are fighting for their rightful place in the state.
He added that the legal system was a good pathway for democracy. He said that lawyers must be humble and courteous. He also urged the new lawyer that she must not get consumed by the material aspect of the profession.
He also said that as an attorney, Ms Sam should know the rules of the profession.
Sam attributes her success to her parents and siblings and other family members who were all present whenever she needed encouragement.
Esther Sam would be attached at the Attorney General Chambers. Over the past month the local bar has seen over 15 new entrants.
