An early morning accident yesterday has left an East Coast Demerara resident hospitalised nursing injuries to his neck and right hand. According to reports, Oswald Clarke, 56, of President’s College Road Golden Grove, was riding a motorcycle on Regent Street when he slammed into a car. It is not clear how the man came into contact with the vehicle but he is now a patient at the Georgetown Hospital in a stable condition.
Initially, Clarke’s injuries appeared critical since he was lying sprawled on Regent Street in an unconscious state. However, he was spared serious head injuries since the helmet he was wearing during the time of the accident did not come off. Yesterday, upon hearing of the accident from Kaieteur News, many of his relatives including his wife gathered at the hospital and were assessing his injuries. Although Clarke’s injuries do not appear life threatening, he could not sit up and had to be fed by relatives. There has been a sharp increase in road accidents of late, despite the current observance of Road Safety Month. Just a week ago, a woman soldier died when the car she was travelling in slammed into a concrete wall on the Rupert Craig Highway.
