Race walkers from across the country will compete for honours when the Cavalier Sports and Tour Club in association with the Guyana Tourism Board stages a 10K race walk around the inner circuit of the National Park this morning starting at 06:30hrs.
Several of the country’s top race walkers would contest for trophies and other lucrative prizes donated by the business community.
Added to that, all eyes would be riveted on Rudolph Mitchell as he continues his rampage, even after he had attained his coveted hundredth race, unbeaten streak. Once again this prolific race walker would have to stave off the challenge of Johnathan Fagundes, and O’Neil Joseph.
Both walkers are in ripping form and Mitchell would do well to remember the stiff challenge he encountered in the Chuddy Japan Memorial Race, earlier this year. In that event, the champion race walker barely walked in ahead of Fagundes while Joseph finished a close third. Obviously, both principals would be nurturing ambitions of dethroning Mitchell.
Meanwhile, plans are being finalized for the CSTC’s ‘Last Lap International Race Walk’ scheduled for Sunday December 13 from the Supply Primary School, EBD up to the Soesdyke Methodist Church. The organizers have indicated that the race would attract international participation.
