A man believed to be of unsound mind plunged into the Demerara River from the Harbour Bridge on a dare, yesterday morning.
The man jumped over the rails at the eastern half of the bridge. He landed on one of the buoys and held on for dear life. Police officers stationed at the bridge quickly alerted a boat operator who immediately ventured to the eastern half of the bridge. The boat operator took the man to the police outpost at the Bridge.
At the outpost, the man said that his friends had dared him to jump over the bridge. “Is meh friends mek a joke and tell me that I can’t jump; so I jump,” the man explained.
He also said that he lived at Den Amstel, but didn’t remember his name. Up to press time he was still in police custody.
