Kuru Kuru Lions, Grove Hi Tec, Timehri Panthers & Mocha Champs tangle
Competition in the Stag Beer division-one league on the East Bank of Demerara continues tomorrow at the Grove Playfield with double header action from 13:00hrs.
Kuru Kuru Lions coming off a defeat from new kids on the bloc Yarrowkabra FC will be aiming for a better day when they match skills with hardliners Grove Hi Tec in what is anticipated to be a fierce battle between two experienced sides.
The day’s main event features Timehri Panthers and Mocha Champs from 15:00hrs, this match-up is also expected to be a keen contest.
Debut win for Yarrowkabra
Yarrowkabra FC, competing in their first game at this level upstaged their more seasoned rivals Kuru Kuru Lions 6-1 in emphatic fashion.
Under the guidance of Coach Winston Binnons, Yarrowkabra sounded a serious warning to the other teams that they are not just in to participate but will give a very good account of themselves. The Lions were gifted a goal when Dwayne Wilson in an attempt to head the ball away succeeded in heading it past his own goalkeeper Sean Sagan.
By this time however, Yarrowkabra were well on their way to a comprehensive debut victory. Ryan Schultz netted a brace with one each Colin Lewis, Milroy Sagan, Kenny Johnson and Ryan Davidson.
Commenting on his team’s first win in their first game at this level, Coach Binnons summed it up as a balanced performance from his young charges.
“I’m very happy for the players who have been hard at work during training. They are a disciplined bunch with lots of potential and will give a good account of themselves in this competition.”
Binnons, while complimenting the Executive of the East Bank Football Association for reviving the game in the area, thanked sponsors Ansa McAl Trading for partnering with the association to get the game back in competitive mode on the East Bank.
Ansa McAl Trading is the sole sponsor of the league under their Stag Beer brand.
