Following a referee’s workshop organised by the World Council of Domino Federations (WCDF) and staged in St Lucia recently, the aforementioned country has been identified to host the World Domino Championships scheduled for October next year.
As such, the host country has been mandated to put the necessary mechanisms in place to facilitate the many guests that will be participating in the tournament.
To this extent the officials of the WCDF would visit St Lucia at least twice subsequent to the start of the tournament to conduct inspections in order to ascertain whether the criteria have been met. A release dispatched to this newspaper from the Barbados office of the WCDF intimated that during the first inspection, WCDF officials would target the venue as well as the accommodation while the second will ascertain whether the other stipulated criterion have been met.
Further to this, St Lucia domino officials have acceded to a mandate to commence training of officials for the tournament.
The other affiliated nations have also taken the cue and have promised to initiate the relevant measures to ensure that the officials under their jurisdiction receive adequate training.
Meanwhile, Secretary General of the WCDF, Charles Lovell chaired the proceedings at the meeting and noted that although the global financial situation impacted, to some extent, on the attendance level of the workshop, the enthusiasm displayed by participants and the general quality of the forum were not compromised.
Representatives spanned most of the affiliated nations in the Caribbean and Dominica, absent from the domino arena for sometime fielded two delegates. They have indicated that players from their country would be actively involved in the impending world championships.
Further, the workshop addressed the rules and regulations governing the tournament.
St Lucia is the defending champions and last hosted the championships in 2002.
Is this oil a blessing or a curse?
