The Port Mourant Turf club situated at Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice has released an action pack programme of horseracing which is scheduled for Sunday December 13.
The end of year meet will see seven races being held during the day. Over $2.5M is on offer and Turfites are expected to turn out in their numbers to witness what is expected to be an excited day of racing.
The facility, which is one of the older one’s in the country, has seen massive rehabilitation work being undertaken in recent times with more work being carried out to make Turfites even more comfortable as they enjoy the King of sports. The track is currently being up graded and the grand stand is being further refurbished.
The C class event is the top race of the day with $350,000 on offer for the winner; the distance is 1650 metres.
The Three Year old race for horses bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies has $250,000 on offer in and will be run over the same distance. The Two year old open event will see the horses trying to out do each other in another 1650m race for the $180,000 first prize.
The F class event has $200,000 available for the winner with the distance also being 1650m.
The ‘I’ class race has $120,000 up for the champion and the distance is seven Furlongs.
There are two other exciting races on the day’s card, although lower in class, they will not be lacking in excitement. Horse’s competing in the ‘I’ 3 maiden 3 year old open with a first prize of $110,000 will be competing over a 1650m distance.
The division 2&3 horses which have a winning prize of $100,000 will be running over a distance of six Furlongs.
Entries close on Sunday December 5.
The day’s activity will be conducted under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA).
