Region Three Chairman, Julius Faerber, says that the reason why the Health Clinic at Versailles has not been used is because Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL) has not installed electricity at the Building.
He was responding to a photograph on the front page of yesterday’s Kaieteur News.
According to Faerber, the power company was paid in 2008 but still has not made any move.
He noted that as soon as electricity is put in place the Health Facility will be operationalised.
When asked why the delay, given that the building was completed in 2005, he explained that it was not fully completed in that year and there was a problem with the contractor.
According to Faerber, the project had to be re-tendered and was fully completed in 2008 when they paid to have the electricity installed.
He has promised to supply the final cost of the project today.
He is also to provide the cost of the material supplied by the Regional administration to build the Meten-Meer-Zorg bridge which was constructed by the Neighbourhood Democratic Council.
A source close to the bridge construction said that labour cost on the bridge was almost $1 million.
Faerber said that at present the only expense incurred by the building is for the security that is paid to keep watch over the seemingly abandoned building.
At present the building is empty save for the security guard who frequents the location.
