Stephney ‘Razor’ George’s dreams of winning a world title for Guyana were dashed when she suffered a knockout loss to Mexican, Ann Maria Torres on the latter boxer’s home turf on Saturday October 31 last.
The fight was staged at the Toluca Edo de Mexico Gymnasio de Incufide. Local boxing Manager/Promoter, Carwyn Holland accompanied George and acted as her agent.
He said that his charge started the bout positively and was looking real good until she got cocky and was tagged early in the third round.
Holland said that George demonstrated determination and pluck but after backing up her opponent to the ropes several times during the second stanza, became careless and was rocked by several power shots.
The fight was scheduled for 10 rounds and the winner carted off the World Boxing Council Bantamweight crown. George has since returned home.
