Former Guyana under-19 all-rounder Danny Narayan is unbeaten and 14 away from his maiden first division century while First-Class left-hander Vishal Singh, ex-National U-19 opener Chris Patandin and Vishal Jaigobin also scored half-centuries on the opening day of their respective matches in the Demerara zone of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) 3-day division 1 cricket matches over the weekend.
The 22-year-old Narayan batted intelligently in his unbeaten 76 on a very heavy Malteenoes ground to help the host to 152-2 replying to 154 all out made by Police yesterday. Jaigobin top scored with 53 while Rawle Browne supported with 32 as the cops were bowled out in 38 overs on a track with plenty of assistance for the spinners.
Berbice-born left-arm spinner Damien Vantull, who could make his Demerara Inter County debut tomorrow at Police, continued his fine work with the ball this year by taking 3-42 and got support from Demerara all-rounder Kelon Carmichael who celebrated his debut for his new club with 2-18 and National player Deon Ferrier who took 2-7.
When MSC began their reply Narayan and teenage Keeper Sarfraz Esau (19) added 80 before leg-spinner Jaigobin bowled Esau.
National player Steven Jacobs (28) brought up the 100 with a straight six off spinner Parnell London before hitting a short ball high to mid-off at 120 as spinner Dwayne Singh struck in his first over in first division cricket. Ferrier (18) offered solid support to Narayan to see MSC to within 3 runs of first innings points when play ended.
In the other game which was played in the city, GCC, led by a fine 61 from Singh, 49 from Waslim Haslim and 20 from Ricardo Jadunauth reached 182-4 replying to Everest’s 181 all out.
Troy Gonsalves took 2 wickets with his leg-spin for Everest who were led to their total by an attractive 64 from former Guyana under-19 opener Chris Patandin, 46 from Gonsalves and 21 from Demerara Wicketkeeper Joseph Perry.
The match at Everest began on Saturday and will continue this Saturday and conclude on Sunday while the game at MSC will also conclude this weekend.
