Even as more than 80 rogue cops have been interdicted from duty for various offences and several more may soon be for the torture of a 14-year-old, yet another police rank is in the spotlight for a negative reason.
Yesterday, a 21-year-old police constable was placed under close arrest pending investigations into allegations that he has been sexually involved with a 12-year-old girl.
The rank, a D’Urban Street resident, allegedly has been having sexual relations with the lass at her home on several occasions.
While some say that it has been a consensual relationship, the rank, who lives next door to the girl, reportedly went to her home at about 11:30hrs yesterday to borrow a hammer but had other plans in mind.
But the 12-year-old was apparently not in the mood and when her mother returned home she told of her ordeal.
The mother in turn took her daughter to the police, reported the matter and the rank was summoned.
At about noon he was turned in by his mother and sister and he denied the allegations.
Both he and the 12-year-old were sent for medical examinations and the medical report revealed that they both were engaged in recent sexual activity.
He was then placed under close arrest and is likely to be charged with carnal knowledge of a minor. According to senior police sources, he could be interdicted from duty and jailed.
Meanwhile, the police are now looking for the girl’s father who according to neighbours, in a fit of rage yesterday afternoon, “brutalised” her. When the abuse became too much for them to bear the police were again summoned to the house to arrest her father but he fled the scene.
Police sources say the mother is reluctant to return the girl to the station and may be arrested today if she does not as she would be obstructing the course of justice in her attempts to cover-up the abuse from the girl’s father.
