Winner of the first leg of the IAAF South America 10k Road Race series, Guyanese Cleveland Forde, stormed to another emphatic victory in the second leg of the race in neighbouring Suriname.
While Forde copped the top spot, his counterparts also did themselves and country proud. Lionel D’Andrade clinched the third position in the male race, while local distance queen Alika Morgan took the second spot on the distaff side. She had claimed second spot in the first leg last weekend here.
The race was rescheduled from Saturday due to heavy rain thunder and lightning which caused flooding on several roadways on the course in Paramaribo. The police had indicated to race officials that it was unsafe for competition and there was initial doubt that the event would take place. However, Suriname’s Minister of Defence intervened and ensured the race was held yesterday.
Full details of the race in tomorrow’s edition.
