Berbicians yearning for fistic entertainment would have their desires met when Orland Rogers, in collaboration with the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) present the Berbice leg of the current Inter-Gym Boxing tournament, this evening at the Scott School Ground, Prince Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam.
Boxers from several regions will match skills in seventeen bouts and the organizers have promised a chockfull of entertainment. The boxers arrived in the Ancient County yesterday afternoon and would attend the weigh in sessions this morning for the subsequent pairings in their respective classes. Among the gyms expected to participate in the programme are, the Guyana Defense Force (GDF) Harpy Eagles, the Pocket Rocket Boxing Club, Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) and Timerhi Warriors.
Berbicians would be able to make a first hand assessment of Georgetown based pugilists like Devon Boatswain (GDF), Stephon Gouveia (HE), Dexter Jordon (FYF) and a newcomer to women’s amateur boxing, Anisa Norville (HE), among others. The inter gym boxing tournament had its genesis when several boxing affiliates decided to take a proactive stance to provide adequate activity for local amateur boxers. To date, boxing buffs have witnessed several exciting fights on cards organized at several different Georgetown venues. Tonight’s activities mark the first of several to happen outside the Capitol city.
The organizers have consequently expressed gratitude to the many corporate bodies that have contributed to the success of the programme. They include several businesses out of New Amsterdam such as, A Alli and Sons, Future Visions DVD and CD Club, Blue Ridge Wireless, Bob and Son, Candy Shop, Universal DVD Club and J Printers.
The action commences at 18:30hrs and admission cost is $200.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
