A Ministry of Public Works employee is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital following an accident yesterday.
Albert Thomas, 57, of 21 Hill Street, Albouystown, was injured after a bus struck him as he stood on the parapet of the road, executing his duties.
Reports reaching Kaieteur News stated that the man was one of several who had congregated around a tractor when a speeding minibus slammed into him, knocking him unconscious.
Unconfirmed reports indicated that a woman was also injured in the accident. Up to press time it was not clear if the minibus driver was in police custody.
The accident comes at a time when the police traffic department is rigidly enforcing traffic laws to minimise the frequency of road accidents.
