Santos defeated Golden Fleece in the final of the Maurice Brandon Memorial ten/10 cricket competition last Sunday in South Essequibo.
At Suddie, Golden Fleece who drew the bye to the final batted first and made 48-6 in their 10 overs with Devanand Madhoo being the main run scorer with 19. National U-19 left arm spinner Anthony Adams bagged 3-9 for Santos who responded with 49-3 in 8 overs.
Guyana U-19 vice captain Royston Alkins top scored with an unbeaten 25. In the lone semi-final Santos overcame Aurora by 21 runs. Santos took first strike and rattled up 63-3 in 10 overs. Royston Alkins led with 34 and guest player Royan Federicks made 22. Aurora in reply managed 42-9 in 10 overs. Rovin Dasrat made 19 as Alkins and Anthony Adams took three wickets each for Santos.
Meanwhile, Golden Fleece who won the 50 overs competition and runner up Eldorado received their trophies.
Speaking after the final Carl Brandon, the brother of the late Essequibo Cricket Board secretary, Maurice Brandon urged the players to take the game seriously and said the competition will be an annual one which will be bigger and better next year.
