A popular funeral parlour owner and two other men remained in custody yesterday as police continued to investigate their possible involvement in the gruesome murders three of the Island Princess crew and the disappearance of a fourth.
The men were taken to CID Headquarters, Eve Leary, and were still being held there late yesterday evening.
What remains unclear is whether the police have any evidence linking the trio to the murders and why the crew members were killed.
When Kaieteur News visited the funeral parlour yesterday, an employee who claimed to be related to the owner confirmed that he was still in custody.
However, the employee said that he had no information about the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
The businessman, one of his brothers and a third man were taken into custody on Tuesday, and police officials confirmed that they were being questioned about the slain crewmen from the Island Princess.
The police said that in the wake of the Island Princess murders they began seeking the funeral parlour owner but the man remained at large until yesterday.
Reports are that this funeral parlour owner also operates a boat.
The Island Princess disappeared late September in the Essequibo River.
The bodies of Island Princess captain, Titus Buckley Nascimento, 46, and 25-year-old engineer Mahendra Singh, were found at Zeelandia, Wakenaam, and on the Hamburg Island seashore respectively.
A third body, identified as that of 23-year-old Ryan Chin, was found near the Queenstown, Essequibo foreshore.
All the bodies were degutted and bore bullet wounds.
Still missing is 46-year-old crewman Rickford Bannister.
The deserted Island Princess was found last week off the coast of Grenada.
