A magnificent unbeaten 99 from Test player Narsingh and a destructive spell of leg-spin from Guyana player Davendra Bishoo spearheaded Albion to an emphatic 108-run win against Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) in the National 40-over first division cricket final at the Guyana National Stadium last evening.
Deonarine followed up his 92 in the semi-finals against city side Malteenoes to hit 6 fours and 2 sixes from 102 to lead Albion to 201-7 off their allotted 40 overs before Bishoo grabbed 6-10 from 7 overs on a ground where he made his first class debut last year with a 5-wicket haul as RHTWSB slumped to 93 all out in 29.4 overs in the all-Berbice Day/Night final.
A handful of fans, mostly from Berbice watched in overcast conditions as Albion slipped to 20-2 after Michael Cummings trapped West Indies left-hander Sewnarine Chattergoon (7) leg before at 10-1 and national pacer Esuan Crandon removed Veerasammy Permaul (3) who was again used at number 3.
Harrinarine Chattergoon (18) was then dismissed by West Indies ODI player Royston Crandon at 69-3 and when National under-19 player Jonathon Foo (17) edged left-arm spinner Ravi Narine to the Keeper at 111-4, most of the work to get Albion to a winning total was left on the inform Deonarine, arguable the 3rd best middle order batsman in the West Indies.
The left-hander did not disappoint his fans and played an array of scintillating shots on the fast outfield despite the morning showers on the East Bank and his six in the final over off Royston Crandon earned him the award for the ‘Play of the Day’ after the one-sided encounter.
Esuan Crandon took 2-34 from 8 overs for RHTWSB who slipped to 20-2 when medium pacer Doonauth Lallbeharry sent back Delbert Hicks (4) and Royston Batson (1).
National player Assad Fudadin (24) and Khemraj Mahadeo (21) offered resistance but once off spinner Ranga Latchana had Mahadeo LBW at 62-3, Bishoo then began his demolition job by dismissing Fudadin at 66-4 and the innings went into the rapid decline on a docile track.
Bishoo got rid of both Jason Sinclair (7) and Esuan Crandon (0) with the score on 75 while Royston Crandon (7) was bowled by Bishoo at 79-7.
Terrance Madramootoo (8) and Narine (0) both departed at 90 to Bishoo in the 27th over before Permaul finished off the match by having Eon Hooper (4) LBW.
Lallbeharry (2-8 from 4 overs), Latchana (1-29 from 8) and Permaul (1-8 from 2.4) supported as Albion won with ease.
