On Saturday, the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) hosted its annual fun day for orphans and other unfortunate children at its Woolford Avenue, Thomas Lands, grounds.
Three hundred and fifty orphans and vulnerable children from across the country attended the fun day which also saw the presence of President Bharrat Jagdeo.
According to Sheikh Safraz Bacchus of CIOG, “sixteen years ago we have taken up the task of looking after children. In 1993 we started with seven orphans and in 2009 there are 300 plus children under our care.”
Children who have excelled at their Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) exams have also received bursaries, it was disclosed.
President of CIOG, Al Hajj Fazeel M. Ferouz, said ways are always being looked at to elevate the programs to make the children as comfortable as possible.
Children were treated to lunch and entertained with pony rides, air castle, go carts and other games.
