Drupattie Zulbakar, whose business at New Road Village, Essequibo Coast, was robbed of valuables, totaling over $900,000, is not happy with the response by the police after the first report was made by her husband, Harold a\k ‘Sports’,
The thieves might have been apprehended, she said.
Mrs. Zulbakar said that in all her 15 years operating a business jointly with her husband, she never was the victim of a robbery.
This attack, she said, caught her by surprise.
She said that theirs is the only business entity operating in the quiet village and are dealers of grocery and hardware items.
According to Mrs. Zulbakar, a little after midnight, early Thursday morning both she and her husband, Harold was awaken by a continuous banging, the sound coming from the storeroom which is located at the bottom flat of the house.
She said that after hearing that sound and realizing that something was amiss, both she and her husband attempted to venture downstairs in an effort to make some enquires.
However, that plan was quickly scotched after one of the bandits shone a bright light towards them. They managed to evade detection, she said.
Mrs. Zulbakar said that at that point her husband advised her to be careful. She said that it was not long after that both of them armed themselves with two knives, as they continued downstairs.
She said when the couple finally reached downstairs there is where her worst fears were realised. She said that a safe containing $500US, along with $116,000 in local currency was empty. Also missing were two digital cameras, two cell phones, two diamond rings, two gold bands and a laptop computer,
Mrs. Zulbakar said she suspected the thieves gained entry in her yard by scaling her neighbour’s fence.
They then removed six window panes aback of her house to enter the storeroom which was attached to her bathroom.
