Essequibo Islands Secondary School gained 960 points to win the Wakenaam Inter-schools athletics championships held recently at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground.
Arthurville Primary came second with 574 followed by Sans Souci Primary 300 and Zeelandia Primary 31 points.
Essequibo Islands Secondary were led by Celina Robertson who won the 100, 1400 and 800 and 1500 metres girls U-14 events, Jumal Hartman who copped the long jump, 200 metres and Javelin boys U-14, Alita Moore who took the 100, 200 and 400 metres and Javelin girls U-16, Ryan Cornette with victories at the Javelin and shot put boys U-20, Terrence Stewart who carted off the 100 and 200 metres boys U-20 ,and Luanne Higgins who won the 100 metres and shot put girls U-20 events.
Arthurville Primary most successful athletes were Laurex Stewart (1st-80,150,400 metres and cricket ball throw boys U-8 , Tealo West (1st at the 100 metres and long jump boys U-10), Dwain Retemiah (1st-400,1000 metres boys U-10), Kashey Duncan -(1st-100 metres, long jump, javelin and shot put boys U-12, Kesta Brown (1st – 400, 1000, 200 metres, long jump and Javelin girls U-12 events).
Taisha Dazzell with victories at the 80 and 400 metres and long jump girls U-8, Quasieann Whyte who copped the 150 metres girls U-8 and Serena Wiggins the winner of the 100, 200 and 400 metres and long jump girls U-10 events were Sans Souci Primary most outstanding athletes.
Resia Allen and Darshanie Mahendranauth got victories for Maria’s Pleasure Primary at the 400 metres and cricket ball throw girls U-10 events respectively.
Outstanding athletes will be selected to represent Wakenaam against Leguan at District 16 inter branch championship to be held at the same venue.
