A man who took several ounces of raw gold from his employer was remanded yesterday.
Kumar Narine, 41, of 70 Vigilance, East Coast Demerara, was refused bail after appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to answer the charges of simple larceny and unlawful wounding.
It is alleged that on October 7, in Georgetown, the accused stole from Surendra Sucomar, seven ounces of raw gold valued at $1M.
It is also alleged that on the same day the accused who denied that he took the gold stabbed Sucomar, after a confrontation about the gold.
Narine, whom Sucomar had employed, pleaded not guilty to the charges. In his own defence he explained “I was not paid a cent after four months of hard work, so I take this thing because the man owes me”.
According to Prosecutor, Kevin London, “The VC left the accused in his shop on the said day. He subsequently returned to see his gold and the accused missing. He later met up with the accused who denied having the gold. An argument broke out which led to a scuffle.
He said that the accused stabbed he virtual complainant.
He added, “The accused was later apprehended by police ranks on the same day”.
