– was depressed over kidney ailment
Mohamed Fazloor Yasin, the Administrator of the Palms, committed suicide at his East La Penitence home yesterday.
Yasin, who was also a former manager of the Lotto Company, was found dead at around 16:30 hrs on the floor of his study with a gunshot wound to the head.
His licenced .32 revolver was in his hand.
It is believed that Yasin took his own life at around 14:00 hrs, since residents reportedly heard a sound like gunshot around that time.
The 59-year-old Yasin was the father-in law of Attorney-at-law Anil Nandalall, who told reporters that Yasin had been ailing for some time and was suffering from depression.
According to Mr. Nandalall, Yasin had been suffering from a painful kidney and bladder problem since 2006.
He underwent surgery in England a few years ago and again at the Prashad Hospital last week, but got no relief.
Nandalall disclosed that his father-in-law fell into a state of depression and told him and other relatives that he wanted to end his life.
According to Nandalall, he had “one or two” sessions with a therapist, but “was getting progressively more depressed and just give up.”
He said that Yasin went to work yesterday morning but then returned home. “My wife called him and he said that he was taking a rest.”
Yasin was to have picked up his wife and one of his children later in the day. When he failed to turn up, Yasin’s wife went to the house to check on him and found her husband lying dead on the floor of his study.
Yasin is survived by his wife, Annie, and three children.
