Kumar Jetto, an assistant overseer for the Tuschen/Uitvlugt Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), was arrested yesterday for defrauding a number of residents in Meten – Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara.
Kaieteur News understands that, Jetto, also of Meten-Meer-Zorg, took a total of $500,000 from Ashim Khan under the pretext that he could get him a house lot.
Khan told Kaieteur News that Jetto arrived at his house yesterday and informed him that he needed more money as processing fees.
According to Khan, after the man requested more money, he became suspicious. Jetto reportedly then showed Khan a document stating that he (Khan) was granted the house lot, but according to Khan, the document had no stamp from the Ministry of Housing.
This then confirmed the man’s suspicions and he reported the matter to the police.
This newspaper has since learnt that Jetto was arrested and is currently in custody at the Leonora Police Station.
Khan told Kaieteur News last evening that Jetto has since admitted to defrauding him and several others of their money.
