Investigators have established that two different weapons were used to execute crew members Mahendra Singh and Captain Titus Buckley.
Ballistic tests conducted on bullets recovered from the skulls of the two men have confirmed that the warheads recovered were fired from two different 9mm calibre weapons.
Buckley’s degutted body was found on Tuesday afternoon on the island of Wakenaam, while Singh’s body which was in a similar state was discovered on Wednesday morning.
Another body, that of Rickford Banister, was recovered near the Queenstown Foreshore, Essequibo on Friday.
According to a source, tests are still being conducted on the bullet recovered from Bannister’s body.
Buckley was shot through the top of his skull, while Singh was shot through his right side temple.
The theory is that the men were attacked by a group of gun toting men who executed them before disemboweling the bodies. All three recovered bodies were buried where they were located because of the decomposed state they were in.
Meanwhile, police have no inclination to exhume the bodies although relatives had not had the opportunity of positively identifying them.
Seventeen-year old Saveita Ramphal, the reputed wife of Mahendra Singh, told this newspaper that she would still like to see his body.
But as far as the police are concerned, there is no need to exhume the bodies for identification since items recovered were positively identified by their relatives.
There is still no sign of the other crew member, Ryan Chin, or the vessel, ‘Island Princess’.
Is this oil a blessing or a curse?
