Half centuries from Geewan Singh and Dillon Heyliger highlighted the first round of the South Essequibo Cricket Committee twenty/20 cricket competition played last Sunday on the Essequibo Coast with six matches.
At Golden Fleece, the home team defeated El Dorado SC by 54 runs. Golden Fleece batted first and made 179 -6 in 20 overs.
Singh top scored with 61 while former national U-19 player Beesham Seepersaud supported with 32 and Rajah Gopaul 25. Deonauth Singh and Lawrence Ramdass took two wickets each for El Dorado who scored 125-9 in 20 overs in reply. Robin Persaud top scored with 32 as Shivnarine Horilall grabbed 3-14 and Seepersaud 3-18 for the winners.
At Suddie Rising Star SC overcame Santos SC by two runs. Rising Star took first strike and scored 122-8 in 20 overs. Royan Fredericks led with 30 while Mortimer Miller captured 3-17. Santos replied with 120-4 off their 20 overs. Essequibo middle order Batsman Dillon Heyliger slammed 62 n.o as Norman Fredericks took 2-18 for the winners.
In other matches played, at Aurora SC, Jaguars got the better of Aurora, and United Brothers SC overcame Rising Star.

At Suddie, Santos made 71 all out in 19 overs (Rovin Dusraj 2-12, Timur Mohamed 3-18) lost to Aurora 76-6 in 18 overs (Moses Robert 27 n.o, Royston Alkins 3-15) by 4 wickets.
At Pomona – Rising Star 120-8 in 20 overs (Carl Bushel 29, Randy Mahadeo 4-15 , Roy Gonsalves 2-12) beat Jaguars 90 all out in 15 overs (Shazaad Alli 24, Royan Federicks 3-19, Deeraj Dindyal 3-20) by 30 runs.
At Pomona, Jaguars 92 all out in 20 overs (Safraz Alli 2-30, Timur Mohamed 3-21) beat Aurora 88 all out in 17 overs (Anand Maniram 30, Roy Gonsalves 4-18, Gandy Mahadeo 4-22) by 4 runs.
On Saturday at Golden Fleece United Brothers 95 all out in 20 overs (Yogeshwar Shaker 2-14, Royan Federicks 2-18) beat Rising Star 49 all out in 18 overs (Raymond Beaton 14-8 Shannon Jagmohan 3-16) by 46 runs. The competition continues on Sunday.
