…doctor at GPHC refuses to work on patient
A family argument ended in the death of 32-year-old, Chaitram Gooroodiyal, of 211 Second Street, Cummings Lodge last evening.
Reports reaching Kaieteur News stated that around 18:30 hrs, Gooroodiyal and an uncle, Ajodha Persaud, were consuming alcohol at the premises when the two got into an argument.
According to the dead man’s niece, Devi Gooroodiyal, after the argument started, Persaud went into the house and came back with a knife in his hand.
“He (Persaud) go inside the house, pick up a knife, come out and lock back the house and meh uncle tell he, ‘Stab meh stab meh’ and whilst coming out, he tek the knife and stab he to he stomach.”
She added that her uncle then clutched his stomach and ran out the yard, where he collapsed a short distance from the gate.
The man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for treatment.
Kaieteur News understands that the man did not receive immediate attention from the doctor on duty, due to an altercation between a nurse and the doctor.
A source from the hospital informed this newspaper that the doctor refused to attend to the badly injured man, because she did not receive his ‘chart’ from the nurse.
It was explained that since Gooroodiyal was in a severe condition that warranted immediate attention, the nurse could not have taken the basic information.
The man’s family broke down in tears at the hospital, after learning of his death.
Meanwhile, Persaud was later apprehended by the police at the Cummings Lodge residence, and he claimed, ‘I ain’t kill nobody.’
Neither the dead man’s niece nor his mother could explain why the two men were arguing.
