The man who allegedly assaulted his nephew by striking him on the head with a piece of wood was in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday, appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to answer the charge of attempted murder.
The charge is indictable; hence the defendant was not required to plead.
It is alleged that Desmond Nobreiga, 44, of Parfait, West Bank Demerara, on September 25, during a heated argument picked up a piece of wood and assaulted Ricky Kissoon to his head with it.
It was noted, too, that the defendant who is also Kissoon’s uncle was in an argument with Kissoon’s mother.
That led to a scuffle; Kissoon intervened and the defendant bashed him in his head with the piece of wood causing him to be rushed to the hospital.
Relatives of Kissoon recounted that every year during Amerindian Heritage Month the extended family would go to St Cuthbert Mission, however this year the budget didn’t provide for the defendant’s son.
This caused him to lose his temper with the rest of family members.
The assault followed on Kissoon.
The magistrate remanded the defendant to prison and fixed October 6 for the next court hearing.
