The Berbice Cricket Board last Thursday honoured two outstanding former Board Presidents for outstanding services by inducting them as Life Members. Malcolm Peters who served as President from 2004 to 2007 and Roy Baijnauth, President from 1999 to 2003 were honoured as part of the Berbice Cricket Board 70th Anniversary Celebration continued.
The simple but significant ceremony was held at the Office of the Berbice Cricket Board and was witnessed by Chairman of National Selectors Claude Raphael and other Executive of the Berbice Cricket Board. Chairman of the Berbice Cricket Board Special Events Committee Hilbert Foster hailed the two former Presidents as trailblazers who worked beyond the call of duty to make a positive difference in Berbice Cricket. He thanked Peters and Baijnauth for their input into the county’s game, noting the present administration was grateful to them for laying the foundation for them to build on. Mr. Foster stated that with the Life Membership conferred on them both former Presidents would now be in a position to contribute more to Berbice Cricket as they experienced passion and commitment that assisted the board leadership in shaping policies for the future.
President of the Berbice Cricket Board Keith Foster hailed his predecessors as role models and heroes as both of them guided him during his early days on the board and were outstanding leaders who always led by example. The President stated that it was the aim of his administrator to honour all heroes of Berbice Cricket while at the same time drawing on their wise counsel and experience. Former Secretary and current Chairman of Competitions Committee of the Berbice Cricket Board Carl Moore who served both inductees as Secretary congratulated them on their achievements noting that both of them were administrators of the highest standard and played a great role in the development of the game in the ancient county.
Mr. Peters after being inducted by Berbice Cricket Board President Keith Foster and Secretary Angela Haniff stated that he was honoured to be made a life member as Berbice Cricket has a special place in his heart. Mr. Peters reflected on his long association with the Berbice Cricket Board since coming on board in 1976 and stated that he was satisfied with his input since then. He thanked the Board for recognising him and his fellow inductee and pledged that both of them would continue to serve the county’s game with the same commitment as before. Both inductees received a special plaque along with a medal and Life Membership sash.
The Berbice Cricket Board would like to express gratitude to Mr. Conrad Plummer and Mr. Bissoondyal Singh for their sponsorship of the two plaques that were presented to the awardees who have joined Mortimer George, Lennox Phillips and Ancel Hazel in the elite Life Membership Scheme.
