Twenty-one year old former West Indies under-19 left-hander Gajanand Singh made 113 off 79 balls with 14 fours and 5 sixes and Paul Wintz grabbed 6-12 to spur hosts Canal Number 2 Sports Club to victory against McGill Super Stars in the semi-finals of the New Line Aqua Farm West Demerara 40 overs cricket competition.
Canal made 308/6 in 40 overs after winning the toss and then dismissed McGill for 107 in 29.3 overs.
Balram Samaroo lashed 77 off 81 balls 10 fours and 3 sixes while Anthony Ifill made 59 off 41 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes to push the Canal team past the 300 mark.
The left-handed Singh, who played 5 First-Class matches between last year and this year, put together 172 in 24 overs for the 2nd wicket with fellow Berbician Samaroo to set Canal on course for their emphatic win.
Rameshwar Persaud, who made 53 off 80 balls 8 fours and a six, was the only batsman to offer resistance after his team had slumped to 32-6 in 9 overs.
Medium pacer Wintz, another of the many Berbicians playing cricket in West Demerara, then befuddled the batsmen in his 8-over spell and broke the stumps when he bowled one of the batsmen. Wintz got support from John Champyane who had 2-3 as Canal Number 2 romped to an easy win. (Sean Devers)
