As the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players continue their fund raising drive to facilitate Abigail McDonald’s participation in the World Scrabble Championships slated for Malaysia on November 26, Giftland Office Max has demonstrated yet another act of corporate responsibility when Mr. Ian Ramdeo assented to a sizeable sponsorship package to offset the local scrabble queen’s journey.
Yesterday afternoon Moen Gafoor received a lucrative check from the business entity in the presence of members of the media corp. Speaking on behalf of Giftland Office Max, Mr. Ramdeo expressed delight at McDonald’s local achievement while urging her to transfer her aptitude to the international arena.
He said that his organization is always happy to support local sports and promised future support to events of this nature. Mr. Gafoor expressed appreciation on behalf of the GASP. “This donation would go a far way towards the cost of the trip and I wish to assure you that Ms. McDonald would work ardently towards the attainment of the prime prize,” Gafoor told Mr. Ramdeo. Meanwhile, GASP has also organized a fund raising raffle to subsidize McDonald’s trip. Mr. Gafoor said that tickets are already in circulation. He said that in order to ensure that the raffle is conducted fairly the executive of the scrabble association have outlined several measures to ensure a smooth selling process.
Gafoor also said that tickets could only be had from GASP members. In other cases where tickets are placed at other outlets this information would be revealed to the public via the media. The tickets would be authenticated by the selling member on the perforated stub and those stubs would be retained by the seller while the purchaser would retain the other portion of the raffle ticket.
Purchasers must ensure that their names and telephone numbers are written on the stub. GASP executives are debarred from participation in the raffle. The drawing would be held in front of Courts Main Street on November 7 at 10:00hrs. The drawing process would be monitored by an auditor from Ram & McRae accountant firm.
Is this oil a blessing or a curse?
