Off-spinner Daniel Gravesande captured a 6-wicket haul and Skipper Randy Lindore hit 84 against University of Guyana (UG) to lead MSC to a 55-run win at the UG ground on Saturday in the opening round of the Demerara zone of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Hand-in-Hand 2nd division knock-out 50-overs cricket competition.
MSC advanced to the Georgetown semi-finals when they beat Ace Warriors yesterday by 5 wickets at MSC.
On Saturday, MSC fell for 196 in 39.3 overs with Troy Lewis and former Guyana under-19 player Shawn Holder supporting Lindore with 20 each.
Andrew Williams and Skipper Dhaniram Seepersaud picked up 2 wickets each for UG who fell for 141 in 29.3 overs.
Ravindra Takurdin top scored with 42 as Gravesande took 6-18 and left-arm spinner Denis Legay 2-19.
And yesterday Ace Warriors put in a spirited performance as MSC won off the penultimate ball of the match which was reduced to 25- overs per side due to rain in the City.
Abzal Gafoor top scored with an entertaining unbeaten 55 and got support from Levar Douglas (30) and Melroy Stephenson (19) as the Warriors reached a respectable 155-5.
Off-spinner Sean Devers took 2-15 from 5 overs while Legay had 2-30 from 5 for MSC who replied with 156-5 in 24.5 overs.
Delvon McEwen made 35, Troy Lewis 29 and former National under-15 Captain Kwame Crosse 25 as Gafoor enjoyed a good match by taking 2-17 from his 5 overs.
The semi-finals of the Georgetown zone is expected to be played this weekend.
