Four ranks from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) were injured at around 15:00 hrs yesterday after the vehicle in which they were traveling slammed into a tree after overturning at Timehri.
Lennox Richmond 53, the driver of Toyota Camry PHH 3748, was the most seriously injured, and was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC).
According to reports, the vehicle was traveling at a fast rate when the driver suddenly veered off the road. The car then toppled several times before crashing into a tree and overturning . Residents related that one of the occupants was thrown from the car.
Public spirited citizens and residents took the injured men out of the car and assisted in putting them into a police vehicle.
Residents also stated that some army ranks arrived on the scene and retrieved three handguns belonging to the occupants.
