Also charged with possession
Damian Griffith, also known as Damian Marks, appeared in court last Thursday to face multiple charges, including murder and narcotics possession.
According to reports, Griffith had murdered Juliet Forde, a shopkeeper, two years ago at Mahdia.
He was also charged for having in his possession, on Monday last, a 9mm pistol and 29 rounds of matching ammunition while not being the holder of a license.
It was also found that Griffith had in his possession on the day of his arrest, six grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Griffith was also charged for an armed robbery that took place at Puruni Landing, Mazaruni last June.
During the robbery, he allegedly stole 122 ounces of raw gold.
Kaieteur News understands that the defendant was subjected to a random search that took place at Kool Breeze Wharf, Bartica, when the illegal items were found on his person.
Griffith was remanded, and is scheduled to make two appearances, first at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court on October 14th and then at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on October 28th.
Griffith, according to reports from the police, had earlier confessed to killing the Mahdia shopkeeper. Juliet Forde had her throat slashed by a man who was attempting to steal from her shop. Her assailant then fled the scene.
