Residents of the Golden Grove/Diamond area will not see any increase in their rates for this year, according to the Local Government Ministry.
A notice posted in yesterday’s edition of Kaieteur News said that rates for residents, commercial and industrial/agricultural lands will not be increased.
Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Kellawan Lall, also disclosed that he has approved the Estimates of Rates 2009 for the Golden Grove/Diamond Neighborhood Democratic Council.
The NDC has seen its workload increase threefold, after the explosive housing growth in the Golden Grove/Diamond/Kaneville areas within the last decade and, has been lobbying for an increase in its rates. In the New Diamond/Grove area alone, more than 8,000 new homes have sprung up placing an extra burden ono the council.
This does not include the Kaneville area which has seen four fields of cane being converted to house lots.
