Dear Editor,
I am writing on my father’s behalf. His name is Seegobin and he currently resides overseas. My father’s local address is lot 151 Shieldstown, West Bank Berbice. His NIS # is A-1656404, and he has been the recipient of old age Pension since 2007.
He last received payment in May 2009 and was in receipt of payment vouchers for June and July 2009, but had to hand in same since he migrated, and subsequently authorised me (his daughter) to uplift his pension payments.
His life certificate as well as the authorisation was submitted to the Fort Wellington Local Office, but to date, no payment was made to him from June 2009. Upon querying with the office at Fort Wellington, I was told that everything was sent to the Head Office at Brickdam.
Endless efforts were made to contact the office at Brickdam, but their phone was more often busy than not. When I finally got through to them, on three occasions I was put on hold for almost half an hour, and then I lost the call.
I am a very busy person and I cannot afford to spend all my time calling the NIS offices in vain.
I was told that the authorization would take only six (6) weeks to process, and to date, it has already been four (4) months.
As far as I am concerned, NIS is only dragging their feet so to speak where people’s payments are concerned.
My dad is very much frustrated with this issue because it’s a matter of his hard-earned benefits at risk here. I would be most grateful if someone in authority can look into this matter urgently.
