While the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) is the governing body for football locally, not all football is played under its auspices.
This was the information divulged by Organising Secretary of the GFF, Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major indirectly to Kaieteur Sport yesterday.
Major informed that the recent tournament at the Gymnasium where several persons were shot and the alleged shooter beaten was never sanctioned by the GFF or the Guyana Football Referees Council. He informed that the GFF don’t sanction tournaments played at the Gymnasium because the surface was not right for futsal football.
He pointed out that the Kashif and Shanghai organisation along with English are currently staging a tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, which has the blessings of the governing body. Several other futsal tournaments have been permitted and staged there because this was Guyana’s premier indoor facility and most suitable for futsal football.
Meanwhile, the K&S English tournament will resume Monday following a break to accommodate the world title fight card at the Sports Hall tomorrow involving Shondell Alfred and Corrine DeGroot.
