An Essequibo All Stars combination will do battle with Queenstown United Football Club in a grudge match from 14:00hrs tomorrow at the Queenstown ground and riveting football is anticipated.
The Essequibo All Stars Skipper Kenton Schroder told Kaieteur Sport that the Essequibo combination was formed from the six football clubs on the Essequibo Coast to challenge the Queenstown United team which has been unbeaten in Region 2 for nearly 3 years.
“This match is to give the Queenstown side a challenge and if they win we (football fraternity) up here will hope that they can carry on as a team outside of Essequibo,” Schroder said.
Schroder said that while players from Essequibo have been involved in national football no club from the Coast has played in national competition although there is plenty of talent in the area.
A trophy and $10,000 has been put up for the winning team and football fans in Essequibo are eagerly looking forward to what they claim will be an epic battle.
Apart from Schroder, Marcin Bowen, Damien Fortune, Andrew John and Orin Belfield Junior will be in the Essequibo All Stars line-up, while the Queenstown United team will be led by Wesley Hart and include Rawle Peters, Selwin Fraser and Selwin Tobin
