Despite acquiescing to several requests for sponsorship over the past weeks Courts, the leading furniture store in Guyana, has responded affirmatively to yet another call for assistance.
Yesterday morning, the furniture giants presented a check to President of the Guyana Amateur Body Building Federation (GABBF), Frank Tucker to offset the cost of hosting the National Body Building championships at the National Cultural Centre, tomorrow evening.
Marketing Assistant (Courts), Pernell Cummings handed over the gift to Mr. Tucker and assured him of Courts’ future support to his organization.
The donation consisted of more than $70,000 worth of trophies for the winners in several categories. These include the Ms. Body Fitness, Ms Guyana Fitness, Mr. Guyana U165lbs and the Mr and Ms Guyana, Overall titles.
President of the GABBF, Mr. Frank Tucker accepted the gift on behalf of his Federation and expressed deep gratitude at the gesture. “We are indeed grateful for this level of assistance,” the GABBF President assured Mr. Cummings. He also disclosed that his organization has shared a mutual partnership with the furniture company since last year when Courts had assisted with a previous promotion.
“The relationship has proven to be very beneficial to sports.
I wish to encourage the public at large to support Courts since they have offered immense support to sports,” Tucker said.
He further wishes to encourage the sporting public to attend the championships tomorrow night in support of the bodybuilders. “We are showcasing the skills of some of our most senior bodybuilders and this would be something to see,” said Mr. Tucker.
Contestants would be drawn from various parts of the country including, the West Coast Demerara, Linden, Georgetown and Bartica and keen rivalry is anticipated. .
Several other business firms also contributed to the programme and include Farfan and Mendes, Caribbean Airlines, Giftland Office Max, Geddes Grant and the New Building Society. Flex time tomorrow evening is 19:00 hrs, sharp.
Meanwhile, shortly after the conclusion of that presentation, Courts demonstrated the true spirit of corporate chivalry when the quintessential Pernell Cummings made yet another presentation to another sports association. This time the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) was the benefactors when it received an IEM 6.6 CUFT refrigerator from the furniture giants.
This gift would go towards the first prize of a fund raising raffle organized by the GASP to raise funds to facilitate National Scrabble Champion, Abigail McDonald’s trip to Malaysia to contest for the world scrabble crown later this year.
“As part of our corporate responsibility Courts Guyana Inc has continuously supported sports because of the role such activities play in the development of young people and by extension, the community,” a Courts release affirmed.
In response, McDonald, who was accompanied by another GASP executive, Leon Belony, thanked Courts for their kindness. “Courts have always been supportive of sports and education locally and while I am appreciative of the gift, I am certainly not surprised by the corporate input of Courts,” McDonald said.
She subsequently promised to justify the gesture by working harder to ‘bring home the bacon.’ (Michael Benjamin)
