The Guyana Power and Light Incorporated (GPL) has reported that the electricity supply on the West Coast of Demerara has improved since Sunday last, after the power company returned a fifth generator set to service.
In a press statement issued to the media, it was noted that the generator was expected to be in service tomorrow (Thursday) but it was actually returned to service on Sunday last, to the satisfaction of consumers, who are also reporting an improvement in the situation, as no power outage has been reported for the week thus far.
By this evening, GPL expects to add a further 1.6 Mega Watt (MW) generator to the Versailles plant, which the company noted will ensure some spare capacity.
According to the press statement, the other initiatives to improve power transfer from Garden-of-Eden and to better regulate voltage on the West Coast are on schedule.
However, despite this, GPL is still urging consumers to conserve electricity.
