Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dr Frank Anthony is expected to give the opening address tomorrow at the Guyana National Stadium when the recently formed Guyana Draughts Association holds its inaugural National Draughts tournament.
The GDA and the Sports Ministry have collaborated to host the Nation-wide competition for anyone interested in playing draughts and the first match in the knock-out competition is scheduled to commence at 10:00hrs. No entrance fee is required and tournament Organizer Jairam told Kaieteur Sports yesterday that registration will be done tomorrow morning at the Stadium and said that anybody from anywhere in Guyana who wants to play draughts at a competitive level is invited to turn up at the Stadium tomorrow.
Interested persons are asked to contact Jairam on telephone numbers 216-0100 or 614-6671 and it was disclosed that trophies will be at stake for not only the champion but other outstanding performers.
It was further revealed that everyone who registers for tomorrow’s tournament will be given a form to join the GDA.
Jairam stressed that registration is not yet closed and encouraged persons to turn up in their numbers tomorrow. (Sean Devers)
