Bourda Market mauled Plaisance Market 5-1 and was duly crowned 2009 Inter-Market football champions when that tournament concluded at the Georgetown Football Club Ground Thursday evening last while Kitty Market, on the back of a double in the 24th and 78th minutes off the boot of Anthony Sancho, dominated Stewartville Market to eventually finish third.
In the feature match, Andrew Gibson, in the 3rd minute, Manasseh Primo (13th and 21st), Ned Fraser (50th) and Stephen Bourne in the 65th minute, all contrived to embarrass the East Coast side.
From the onset football buffs were able to distinguish the disparity between the two teams when Gibson collected a cross from the left wing and sent in the first success for the eventual winners. Five minutes later, Primo charged down the right wing, skillfully evading every player in his way only to encounter a strong defensive wall meters from the opposition’s goal.
Not to be daunted, the dapper striker launched another attack five minutes later. This time, with only the goalie to contend with he punched in Bourda Market’s second success. Eight minutes later, Primo stitched in another goal as Bourda appeared set to enjoy a goal spree.
With 3 goals tucked under their belt, Bourda Market approached the second half with gusto. Five minutes into play Ned Fraser slammed in their fourth goal with Stephen Bourne polishing off the onslaught with a decisive 65th minute effort. John Heliger then saved some face for the losers with a 67th minute strike.
For their efforts Bourda Market carted off $150,000 while the Plaisance team collected $100,000. Kitty Market pocketed $75,000 while Stewartville took home $50,000. The tournament was sponsored by Banks DIH Ltd, under the Power Stout Brand. Communications Manager, Troy Peters and senior executive, Mortimer Stewart both witnessed the match. Prior to the start, Stewart had kicked off the ball to open the night’s proceedings.
