The men whom police say are responsible for the abduction of 21-year-old Rorhema Dookie last month yesterday made their first court appearance before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The three men; 23 year old Franz Prince, Sivon Warner, 27, and 22-year-old Tyrone Solomon, were jointly charged with the wrongful confinement of Rorhema Dookie.
It is alleged that between August 26 and 27, Prince, Warner and Solomon, with the intent to hold Rorhema Dookie for a ransom of $40 million wrongfully confined Dookie.
As the charge was indictable, the defendants were not required to plead.
Police Prosecutor Robert Tyndall asked that bail be refused, citing section 9 of the Kidnapping Act as supporting that request.
Attorney-at-Law Mark Waldron, representing Solomon, in association with Attorney-at-Law Roger Yearwood, made no request for bail for his client, instead asking the court for an early trial date.
The matter is being referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice. Bail was refused for all three defendants. They are expected to return to court on September 25.
Rorhema Dookie was snatched from her boyfriend’s car on August 26 last, shortly after leaving classes at the Business College on Thomas Street. The 21-year-old was blindfolded and taken to a house, where she was reportedly left untied. Using her cell phone, the kidnappers called her father and demanded $40M for her release.
According to reports, the victim was pulled from the house she was being held captive in by a woman, after the captors left her unguarded, and was reunited with her family the following night.
