Led by a fine all-round performance from Sudesh Persaud, McGill Super Stars defeated All Youths Sports Club by 128 runs on Saturday last at the Canal Number 2 Sports Club Ground in the West Demerara zone of the Demerara Cricket Board’s Hand-in-Hand 2nd division 50-over knock-out competition.
McGill won the toss and made 306-8 in 40 overs before All Youths were bowled out for 178 in 31 overs.
For McGill, Persaud top scored with 67 while Veeru Singh (48) and Prahalad Singh (44) offered support after Persaud and Singh shared a 43-run second wicket partnership. Ricky Persaud took 4-52 and Jagdesh Persaud 2-45.
Ricky Persaud (32) and Anand Gangadeen (30) offered some fight in a losing cause for All Youths as Persaud grabbed 5-40. Azar Deen supported with 2-32
In other games, Lagrange defeated Rising Storm, Independence got the better of Gasper United, Cornelia Ida beat Leonora and Players outclassed New Windsor.
Other teams advancing to the other rounds are Cultural, Uitvlugt Sports Club and Windsor Forest.
The West Demerara Cricket Association is providing balls to all clubs participating in the competition which continues tomorrow with Uitvlugt Sports Club at home to Evergreen.
