Legay, Horatio, George impress with ball
Afzal Gafoor captured a match haul of 12 wickets including 8-42 and made 34 in a losing cause for Ace Warriors against Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) over the weekend in the Raymond Panday/Cummings Electrical 2nd division 2-day competition in Georgetown.
MSC batted first and made 169 with Alexandra Wickham hitting 41, Jamal Norton 38, Vishal Narayan 24 and Delon Moffett 20.
Gafoor was the destroyer with 8-42 while Keon Douglas took 2-43 for Ace Warriors who were bowled out for 95 despite Gafoor’s fighting 34.
Former Guyana under-15 left-arm spinner Denis Legay took 4-7 and national under-15 Skipper Shaquille Williams 2-8. Narayan made a solid 50 and got support from Keifo Naughton 30 and Adrian Smith 44 as Delon Azore grabbed 5-50 and Gafoor 4-58 for Ace Warriors who set 267 to win, fell for 210 in their second innings.
M. Stevenson missed his century by 2 runs as Legay continued his impressive form in the competition, taking 5-41. Williams supported with 4-42 with is off-spin for MSC.
At UG, DCC beat the Students by 9 wickets after being set 4 to win on the final day after Kashif Amsterdam had Sohil Hussain stumped as DCC reached 6-1
Paul Persaud offered token support with 26 as UG fell for 96, off-spinner Kevin George taking 5-17 and Jermaine Horatio 3-41 for DCC who declared at 147-8.
Denver Greaves hit an unbeaten 54 while George made 26 and Horatio 23.
Wayne Fraser took 3-58 and Jai Shunauth 2-38 for UG who, with a deficit of 51, were bundled out for 54 as Horatio grabbed 6-32 and George 2-14.
