BERBICE ZONE
– Keith Fraser hit an unbeaten 99 and his teammate Krishnadat Ramoo made 49 and took 5-41 to propel West Berbcie to victory on Saturday in the Berbice zone of the National Neal & Massy 40-overs cricket competition.
Former national Under-19 captain Eugene La Fleur continued his outstanding form with his fourth half century out of five innings and his 87 was the backbone of Bermine’s challenge to West Berbice’s 237 in their 40-overs.
LaFluer and Guyana Under-17 batsman Jamally Odle (28) put on 106 in 20-overs for the first wicket but Bermine still fell short by 19 runs, their first loss in the competition.
Opening batsman Keith Fraser, also a first division Football goalkeeper, smashed 5 fours and 5 sixes in his unfinished innings while former Berbice Under-19 player Ramoo had good all-round performance for the Region 5 team.
The No. 70 Ground in Upper Corentyne was set alight by Deoprakash Ramdat’s 71 (8 fours and 1 six) and Bheem Singh’s 48 as Upper Corentyne made 260 for 7 in 40 overs against Port Mourant who won 6 wickets with 3.2 overs to spare.
Former Berbice Under-19 captain Rajiv Ivan hit 6 fours and 6 sixes in an undefeated 86 and opening batsman Devendra Thakurdeen’s 62, his second half century of the competition, led P/Mourant to victory.
After Albion’s four top players, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Narsingh Deonarine, Devendra Bishu and Veerasammy Permaul opted to miss their team’s match against Skeldon it was not surprising that Skeldon eked out a slim 1 wicket win, thanks mainly to Sherwin Murray who took 2-34 to help restrict Albion to 137-9 in 40 overs and then batting at number 6, scored 59 not out to guide Skeldon to victory.
Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar, without the services of Esaun Crandon and Assad Fudadin, who also stayed in Georgetown for the 20/20 match at the Stadium and Royston Crandon who is with the West Indies training camp, defeating Scottsburg United by 8 wickets.
A five-wicket haul from medium pacer Renwick Batson and an unbeaten 46 from Jason Sinclair, who batted through the innings, saw their team to victory.
Led by 55 from teenager Vishal Mohabir and 47 from Vedesh Singh, Rose Hall Community Centre made 285-8 against Blairmont Community Centre to help their team to a 131-run victory.
