The Guyana Police Force (GPF) Joint Services preparation is currently underway and the Head Coach of the team, Lyndon Wilson is adamant that he has enough arsenals for them to defend their title this month end on home ground.
The Joint Services Athletics Championships are slated for September 29 – October 2 at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary where the Armed Forces will display their athletics component in an archaic battle for supremacy.
The Police Force has home advantage this year and according to Wilson his team is more than ready for the event. “Everyone is fit and ready to go. Basically we are in competition phase,” Wilson told Kaieteur Sport yesterday.
The International Association of Athletics Federations’ (IAAF) Level III Coach indicated that his preparation for the event so far has been without glitches. “Preparations are going smoothly. We are working on flexibility,” he informed.
Wilson believes that he has an overwhelming advantage against his nearest rival, Guyana Defence Force (GDF) in the sprint and field events. He thinks that the middle distance events are a spot of bother but nothing major.
“Because I know that they (GDF) lost last year, I know that they will come strong and (I) am aware that they were preparing. I know that they are the major threat to us defending our championship,” Wilson adamantly believes.
The Joint Services Championships will produce a few intense rivalries when the event is fired off this month end.
