Back Scheme Amelia’s Ward stunned Front Scheme in a thriller Monday night when the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport’s (MCYS) inaugural Inter-Block Basketball contest opened at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court, Linden.
Back Scheme edged Front Scheme 53-50 with national junior basketball captain, Akeem Kanhai leading the way for Back Scheme with 15 points. Jevon Nelson and Oscar Adams supported Kanhai with 10 points each in the game.
Kanhai and former junior national player, Nelson proved too much for senior point guard, Kevin “Two-Feet” Joseph, who had 16 points in a losing effort for Front Scheme. He was supported with 11 points from Lawrence DeCosta.
The game between Back and Front Scheme Amelia’s Ward was the featured encounter of a double-header, which saw a clear mismatch in the first game when Christiansburg and Blueberry Hill combined thrashed Block 22 Wisrock.
The Christiansburg combined team won 76-43 with Wendell Warrick scoring 19 points in the lopsided game for the winners. Strion Obermuller had 14 points while Shane Lewis and Mark Luis scored 12 points each in support.
Gavin Clark was the only player in double figures for Block 22 Wisrock. Meanwhile, the official opening of the MCYS Inter-Block Basketball Competition is scheduled for this evening at the Mackenzie court before additional games.
