Ansa McAl trading under their Mackeson brand has renewed their commitment to the East Demerara Football Association (EDFA) with sponsorship of their 2009/2010 Senior League which will commence on Saturday.
Yesterday, at their B.V Headquarters, Ansa McAl’s Public Relations Officer Darshanie Yussuf handed over the sponsorship cheque to EDFA President Aubrey Hutson in the presence of Marketing Director, Troy Cadogan.
Cadogan, stated that Ansa McAl was happy to be partnering with the EDFA yet again as they are very interested in the total development of the players and sport in Guyana as a whole, but in this particular instance, the East Demerara. He noted that they are in line to sponsor a Pee Wee competition also.
The two-round league will last into 2010 and Cadogan made a call for fans to come out and support their respective teams. “You have an important part to play as a stakeholder in this sport, so come out and encourage the players and teams. As fans, you are one of the reasons that sponsor’s support.”
Hutson in response commended Ansa McAl for their show of confidence in the Association once again. He reminded that the company was also the sponsor of the Sweet Sixteen knock-out tournament which is organised by the Bakewell Buxton United F.C.
“Ansa McAl has been there for us from the time they relocated to the East Coast and we are very grateful to you. This league will be played over two rounds and will go into next year. This is to ensure that football is constantly played on the East Coast.”
The President also announced that Ogle Football Club will be making a grand return to competitive football on the East Coast and the Association is very elated to see them back in the fold.
“We must say that we are very happy as we strive to spread the game to new areas. Ogle/Industry did play football in the past but there was a lapse and now they are back. They are ready to play at the senior level and quite recently, they put up a good showing against Bartica and we look forward to them doing well in the league.”
Manager of Ogle F.C Sheik Yaseen noted that they were very happy to be back and will give a good account of themselves. “We have a roster of more than 22 senior players and we also have a junior team, so we are really looking forward to showing what we can do in this league after being out for a number of years.”
A total of eight teams will compete for top honours including defending champions, Buxton United. Opening play on Saturday will see Golden Stars match skills with hosts Plaisance from 16:00hrs.
A double header is fixed for Sunday at the same venue, Ogle/Industry open against Mahaica from 14:00hrs with the main event featuring BV Triumph United and Ann’s Grove.
