Rahim, Williams share honours at Weightlifting Intermediate C/ships

Vijay Rahim of the Hardcore Gym snatched 70kgs and clean and jerked 85kgs to cart off the honours in the Junior Male, 62kg category when the Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Association (GAWA) staged the 2009 National Intermediate & President’s Cup Championship at the Aracari Resort, Versailles, West Bank Demerara, Sunday morning last.

Marvis Williams (Barims), snatched 80kgs and clean and jerked 115kgs to dominate the Open Men 69kg Class, in the process carting off the President’s Cup trophy. Nigel Phillips was the best lifter in the Open Men 77kg class with a clean and jerk of 90kgs and a snatch of 70kgs. .

Twenty lifters participated in championship, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport with Rahim and Williams distinguishing themselves from the bunch.

The other results read: School Boys over 30kg Class: Kemo Jobe (True Foundation) snatched 25kgs and clean and jerked 27.5kgs to dominate this category while Dokhown Matthews (True Foundation) snatched 22.5kgs and clean and jerked 30kgs to finish in the second spot.

School Boys over 40kg Class: Alistair Dookram snatched 47.5kgs and clean & jerked 62.5kgs. School Boys over 50kg Class: Teon Timmerman (Barims) snatched 45kgs and clean and jerked 65kgs to win this category. School Boys over 50kg: Teon Timmerman (Barims) snatched 45kgs and clean & jerked 65kgs while Shomal Nelson (True Foundation) snatched 32.5kgs and clean & jerked 37kgs to place second.

In the Junior Male 56kg Class: Derick Hyman (Barims) snatched and clean & jerked 77.5kgs to take first place while Kevin Josiah (Barims) snatched 55kgs and clean and jerked 65kgs.

Junior Male 62kgs Class: Vijay Rahim (Hardcore) snatched 70kgs and clean & jerked 85kgs while Orwayne Cozier (Barims) snatched 50kgs and clean & jerked 70kgs. In the Junior Male 69kgs class, Kurtis Anderson (Barims) snatched 62kgs and clean & jerked 80kgs to come out on top of Oliver Kippins (Barims) who snatched 62.5kgs and clean & jerked 72.5kgs to end in second place. Salim Mohamed (Barims) finished in the third place spot.

In the Open Men 62kgs Class, Bhojnarine Persaud of Hardcore gym was the sole competitor. He snatched 75kgs and clean & jerked 102.5kgs.

In the Open Men 69kgs class, Marvis Williams of Barims snatched 85kgs and cleaned and jerked 115kgs while in the Open Men 77kg Class, Nigel Phillips (Hardcore) snatched 70kgs and clean and jerked 90kgs to place first while Dorian Scott (Barims) came in second. He snatched 70kgs and cleaned and jerked 85kgs.

In the Men Open 94kg, Class Fazim Abdool (Hardcore) dominated with a snatch of 107.5kg. Jimmy Franklyn (Barims) was the sole guest lifter in the 56kg class. He snatched 47.5kgs and clean and jerked 62.5kgs.
