Dear Editor,
It’s approximately three weeks since Jagnarine and Gibson were murdered and the 10-year-old boy has gone missing!
Is the Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee doing anything on this matter? The boat at the centre of this incident near Hogg Island has been impounded in the care of the Parika Police Station. The boat, according to news reports, had been in a collision with another green-painted boat.
Mr. Minister, have you appointed a team of forensic experts to examine Jagnarine’s boat and the Coast Guard vessel that had been taken out of service for three days for repainting; and also a team of detectives to “interrogate” the trio of soldiers now in custody who have since confessed to the robbery and killing of gold dealer Ramdass?
This is a nation of 700,000 people at home and 500,000 abroad – and we are in the dark, not just starved for news, but we want to see the Minister discharge his duties and let us know how the investigations are developing – and eventually how this crime will be solved.
Who committed this crime? Let us see justice take its course.
The Commissioner of Police, Henry Greene is on record of saying he was not aware of any evidence of “foul play” – he is not “privy” to any evidence to suggest that these men died by anything other than an accident.
The Commissioner made these very prejudicial statements despite the published post mortem report saying the men died from “blunt trauma” blows to their heads.
Mr. Minister, Salimoon Rahaman is a grieving wife and mother whose husband, Jagnarine and an employee, Gibson have been murdered – and her 10-year-old son is still missing.
Are you going to keep silent on this matter, to allow these murders to become stalemated and forgotten?
The oath of office taken when you assumed the portfolio for this Ministry demands that you take charge of the police – and to administer and preside over the system of law enforcement in this once lovely country of Guyana?
It’s almost 23 days since the murders, and you still have not called a media conference to address this matter specifically.
This nation demands Sir, you also produce your logs of daily activity that may provide some explanation as to why this case could not have been solved in the first three days after August 11th, despite the glaring tell-tale signs left on the victims’ boat.
Mr. Minister this is a very serious matter. In every country where true democracy – and its concomitant accountability – is practiced, a “studied” failure on the part of a Minister to perform his/her duties would lead to his sacking.
I grant you, Sir, Guyana does not have a culture of sacking Ministers of the government for corruption, neglect and deliberate failure to carry out his/her duties.
However, my plea to you Sir: Would you not help to see justice is done in this case?
Do it for the sake of the grieving mother and wife, Salimoon Rahaman, if not for the nation, please?.
Mike Persaud
